See you soon, Maxime!

FabLab Shibuya

My name is Maxime Leblanc, I am from France.
I studied contemporary jewellery in Strasbourg and since my graduation, I’m focusing on design.

I’m making a three months internship at FabLab Shibuya. Their I hope to dip myself deeper into the japanese culture that have always impressed me. I want to enjoy a modern way of life while simplify my access to the production. My appetite for independence, small scale all-in-one workshop and new media brought me to the Fablab’s adventure.

I hope to share with the fabniners and discuss about our wishes for the future. I’ll focus my energy on helping people enjoy this convention.

Here you can take a look at my website (starting to be quite old :S)

Tokyu Hands
12-18 Udagawacho, Shibuya
Their you can find a lot of atypical/useful material (leather, silvering kits, rubber tubes, carbon fiber, jewellery tools, fish tank filters, gundam kits, vacuum cleaner, disguisements) located on 9 dedicated floors. Each floor is divided into three part, but the staff are really helpful and could help you find what you are searching for. As It’s a kind of alibaba cave there, I highly recommend you to go on the top of the building with the elevator and then use the stairs to go down. (be careful, each floor as two different stairs, one of them skip subfloor)

At the top of it you can find Science base / hands coffee that is a really cosy space in the top of tokyo hands tower. There you can find some funny popularized science kit (really hack appealing). But this in mainly attractive for its coffee service. There you can eat some club sandwiches with a coffee for an affordable price (their waffle and berry sundae is staggering). There is two balconies where you can take a look at a panorama of tokyo. Some connected macintosh PCs available as a digital gate. Their is even a indication about you calories loss on each steps.

The red building
10 Udagawacho, shibuya (in front of the Fablab Shibuya parking spot)
I chose to call this building that way because I couldn’t find its real name.Don’t be fooled by the graffiti covered stairs. In fact, it’s a really small and charming building with a bar/cafe at each floor. I spent one charming evening at the third floor. I arrived their by accident and I join the birthday of a jazz singer. The atmosphere was really homely. The view is luminous due to the parking spot. I recommend this place.
The fourth floor is a sake bar (I guess the view is even better),the third floor is (as you already probably guess) a jazz concert bar, the second floor is a rock bar having a garage touch and the first floor is a mystery bar for me, but the sticker covered door pictures me a kind of underground place for the youth/punk/skaters/I don’t know.

See You, Max!
